In this fascinating and hilarious talk, cognitive scientist Philip Fernbach peels back the layers of what we really know and reveals some surprising truths about the human mind. Philip Fernbach is a cognitive scientist and professor in the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Co-author of The Knowledge Ilusion: Why We Never Think Alone, Philips research focuses on why we think we know more than we actually do and the implications this has on individuals and society. He lives in Boulder with his wife and two children. In his free time, he plays bluegrass music and ice hockey. TEDxKC 2013: Defy Impossible. Anne Mahlum is a social entrepreneur who loves to create and build with purpose. The majority of her focus over the past four years has been on Back on My Feet, a non-profit organization she started in Philadelphia in 2007 that uses the power of running to change the way those experiencing homelessness see themselves so they can make real change in their lives.

Anne regularly speaks at corporate events, academic institutions and conferences. She has presented on leadership, inspiration, the business behind starting a nonprofit, fundraising, social change and of course, the issue of homelessness.

1 out of 4 people suffer from mental illness. Look around you, and chances are out of the closest 3 people, 1 of you may be suffering from mental illness. Elizabeth speaks volumes from her own experience battling mental illness and how it is not a personal problem, but a communal one for which we are all responsible to address.

Elizabeth is a junior at the University of Texas at Austin studying Chemistry. She is a pre-medical student hoping to one day run her own practice and use a combination of diet, therapy, and medicine to heal the physical and psychological wounds of her patients. She is the proud owner of her mini wiener dog Bella, who helped her heal and grow through some of her lifes toughest battles.
