My Path To Becoming A Buddhist | Emma Slade | TEDxSevenoaksSchool

Emma Slade, author or Set Free and founder of the charity Opening Your Heart to Bhutan, talks about her path to buddhist, and the situation in which she found herself which caused this change. Emma was previously a successful investment banker and talks about the dichotomy between her current life and her previous occupation, and how this has allowed her to view the world in a fresh light.

Emma was born in Kent and was educated at universities in Cambridge and London. She had an exciting international career in finance which she committed to with mental drive and a tasteful selection of suits. But a deep seated desire to enquire into the deeper aspects of what it is to be a human being was brought to the surface following a life-changing visit to Jakarta, Indonesia. She resigned from her financial career and began travelling and exploring yoga and meditation. Since then she has taught yoga and meditation for over 15 years and continued to deepen a life — long interest in Buddhism.

Those who are "nature-wise" have an edge in today’s world | Ronna Schneberger | TEDxCanmore

In today’s busy distracted world, those who carve out 15 min to walk in a park or forest on a regular basis will have an edge. Research shows time in a park or forest practicing Shinrin Yoku or forest bathing will decrease stress and anxiety, and it will increase the ability to focus, think critically and make better decision.

For the past 25 years Ronna has been exploring ways of connecting people to themselves through time in wild places. This interest has led her to study a variety of practices including leadership development, meditation, storytelling, indigenous traditions, and most recently Shinrin Yoku (forest bathing).

Ronna is one of the first people in Canada to guide the simple yet powerful practice of Shinrin Yoku. As faculty with Leadership Development at the Banff Centre, Ronna has been working with professionals and executives using nature as the teacher to create powerful reflections and transformation. When people feel connected to nature they become connected to themselves, others and everything else in their life becomes clear. Ronna provides effective tools so people can listen to themselves and what nature has to tell them. With our increasingly busy technological world, research shows it is the nature wise who will have the advantage.

Four personality styles: Jennifer

Linda Nacif was born in Los Angeles in the 40s. Jenny, her eldest daughter was born in Mexico 30 years later. Linda was one of Mexicos first female motivational speakers, and when she returned to the U.S. 20 years ago, Jenny took her mothers torch. Both are bi-lingual; have written numerous books; and are television and radio personalities. They believe that all humans have 4 basic personality styles and once we identify them, our ability to understand others opens the doors to genuine communication. Todays technological world is very different than it was in Lindas times, but the need for interpersonal understanding is now more important than ever.
