In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. Karina Chapa speaks to the power of bilingualism and its ability to revolutionize education. In America, over 5 million students speak a language other than English at home, but regardless of the diversity of languages, only 20% of people are bilingual. Karina sheds light on the history of bilingualism in the United States and how we can move forward in today’s educational system.
Karina’s talk also looks into the neural science behind bilingualism and its positive effects on cognitive flexibility, creativity and problem solving skills. Karina Chapa is a courageous bilingual advocate who proudly serves more than 160,000 bilingual students in deep South Texas. She is an Ex-A-Tec originally from Monterrey, Mexico. She is currently the Language Proficiency, Biliteracy and Cultural Diversity Director. She is also the Legislative Chair for the Texas Association for Bilingual Education and the Parliamentarian for RGV-TABE. She has dedicated 18 years of her professional career to empowering bilingual education students, teachers, and administrators in the deep South Texas border. She became a neuroscience nerd, studying how the brain works and how to build rapport with people. She has since worked with organizations to use persuasive communication to increase their performance, productivity, and profit, and published a book about her personal research called Getting Others to Do What You Want. In addition to her marketing and consulting work, Lynne is a member of the National Speakers Association and President-elect of its Illinois chapter. Комедийный художественный фильм «Девчата», снятый в 1961 г., в СССР режиссёром Юрием Чулюкиным по одноимённой повести Б. Бедного.
На северные лесозаготовки приезжает Тося Кислицына — выпускница Симферопольского кулинарного училища, сирота, совсем девчонка, — умница, настоящий товарищ. На первых же танцах она отбривает местного кумира — лучшего бригадира Илью Ковригина, и начинается у них любовь-борьба, в лучших традициях советских лирических комедий.
Первый раз комедию показали в марте 1962 года в зале ЦДК. На премьеру пришли все, кроме Инны Макаровой. Она была обижена за то, что убрали финальную сцену её расставания с женихом. Картина сразу понравилась зрителям и даже критикам. Но высокое начальство посчитало, что комедия чересчур бытовая и мелковата для советского экрана, поэтому фильму была присвоена третья прокатная категория.
За рубежом картина имела успех. Получила приз Эдинбургского кинофестиваля и приз кинофестиваля в Мар-дель-Плата. Зарубежные газеты называли Румянцеву «Чарли Чаплин в юбке», а итальянцы — «русской Джульеттой Мазиной».

Я уже гулял по этой части Манхэттена, но район Вашингтон-Хайтс настолько интересный и многогранный, что за один раз там все не показать и не рассказать. В течение семи дней мы идем к столовой горе Рорайма. Рорайма была главной целью нашего путешествия в Венесуэлу. Во время выхода мы совершили ошибку, не взяв с собой палатку, пришлось строить укрытия для ночевки из подручных материалов.
