Michael Stevens the persona behind the YouTube sensation Vsauce, is an online personality with an entertaining approach to explaining the science behind seemingly ordinary, everyday phenomena. Michaels videos have been watched over 400 million times and Vsauces 4.5 million subscribers continues to add an astonishing 15 thousand subscribers each day. Michael lives in London where he works for Google as an in-house consultant for other creators on the platform.

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Amma Asante is the director of the Hollywood hit movie Belle and found that working in Hollywood where only 0.4% of directors are black females, she has been under pressure to live up to a definition bestowed upon her; one that did not match own own self definition. A passionate speaker, Amma asks us to consider that we are all a combination of many worlds put together and when those worlds meet, progress can follow.

BAFTA award winning writer-director Amma Asante began her career as a child actress, appearing as a regular in the popular British school drama Grange Hill.

She fronted the «Just Say No» campaign of the 1980s and was one of nine Grange Hill children to take it to the Reagan White House.

Asantes 2004 feature film, A Way of Life, was her directorial debut and garnered her 17 international awards for her writing and directing including newcomer awards for writing and directing from the BFI London Film Festival, The Times Breakthrough Artist of the Year and the prestigious South Bank Show Awards. Asante’s second feature film, Belle was released in cinemas in 2014. The film drew widespread acclaim and is the third highest grossing independent film of 2014. In this fascinating and hilarious talk, cognitive scientist Philip Fernbach peels back the layers of what we really know and reveals some surprising truths about the human mind. Philip Fernbach is a cognitive scientist and professor in the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Co-author of The Knowledge Ilusion: Why We Never Think Alone, Philips research focuses on why we think we know more than we actually do and the implications this has on individuals and society. He lives in Boulder with his wife and two children. In his free time, he plays bluegrass music and ice hockey. As a record-holding memory athlete, Simon Reinhard knows better than anyone that our memory is a powerful tool — and yet, it is very limited. After a spectacular demonstration of number memorization, he explains why we can remember things better if we put them into context, and teaches us how to go beyond the current abilities of our memory. With personal stories, he shows how this technique can help you at school, in your career, or even if you just want to make a point in a discussion.

Simon Reihnard was born in Munich and studied Law there, finishing in the top 7.5% of his class. During his university career, he came into contact with memory techniques; he learned that there was such a thing as „memory sports“, the competitive memorizing of different kinds of information (numbers, names, words, cards) in a set tournament format. He started competing right away and found it thoroughly fascinating to memorize more and more information with the help of techniques which use a set of locations and images.
