Dr. Nooshin Razani talks about the healing power of nature as well as why it is her mission to prescribe time in nature as a way to treat health conditions. Watch Dr. Nooshin Razanis talk to learn how and why nature can be an essential part of healthy living.

Dr. Nooshin Razani has devoted her career to preserving natural spaces and improving human health through nature. She studied pediatrics and public health at the University of California at San Francisco and Harvard. She was trained as a Nature Champion by the National Environmental Education Fund

Watch this talk if you are interested in the well-being of young children. Children spend most of their waking hours in child care every day where they can play outdoors and learn from nature. Interacting with plants and insects outside is found to be fundamental for children’s health and well-being. In her talk, Cosco will explain the importance of being outdoors as it releases the power of experiential learning and etches lifelong memories of nature.

Nilda Cosco, PhD, is Research Associate Professor, College of Design, and Director of Programs at the Natural Learning Initiative, North Carolina State University. With a background on the psychology of the learning processes and the impact of the built environment on behavior, she shares her experience observing children’s adventures in nature and highlights the power of the outdoors to support child development.

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. The Ugly Indian is an anonymous collective that does not talk to media, wants no publicity and works with the motto — Only Work No Talk. However, they made an exception for TEDxBangalore so that they could open up the question of why we as Indians are okay with filthy public spaces? The tragedy of the commons — can we change it to the victory of the commons?

Theres a silent revolution brewing in India, and its called The Ugly Indian. It is anonymous, faceless and leaderless, and has seen thousands of citizens coming out to fix local civic problems following a simple motto: Kaam Chalu Mooh Bandh. Only Work No Talk. What started off as a series of social experiments in Bangalore in 2011, to see what it takes to change everyday ugly Indian behaviour in public spaces (littering, spitting paan, public urination and more), has now transformed into a nation-wide movement that is spreading virally – both on social media, and on the ground. The centrepiece of the TUI approach is the spotfix where ugly spots are fixed by citizens. There is no activism, no sloganeering, no lecturing, no finger-pointing and no ideological debates – just a sincere attempt to solve problems by focusing on a spot — using ones own time, hands and money.
