Встреча организована Центром тибетской культуры и информации и фондом «Сохраним Тибет» при поддержке «Московского центра исследования сознания» при философском факультете МГУ.

Nearly everybody can communicate, and most do so through some form of language, and yet the question of where language came from is one of the most difficult questions in science. Psychologist and author, Michael Corballis explores the many theories of languages origins, including his own, and details how language and communication have continued to evolve, from primates use of gestures, to the advent of communicative technologies. Michael Corballis, emeritus professor at the Department of Psychology at The University of Auckland is one of the foremost global experts on the evolution of human language.
The son of a sheep farmer from Marton, Michael’s long and decorated academic career has seen his studies of the brain and what it is to be human earn him New Zealand’s top science prize, The Rutherford Medal.
He has worked with patients who have had two-sides of their brains disconnected to relieve epilepsy which led him to look deeper into studying the two brain hemispheres. His most recent book The Truth About Language explores the idea that language evolved from manual gestures. Together with The Bombay Chamber Orchestra, they deliver a never before seen sneak peak into this globe trotting symphonic project. At first glance, you’d struggle to find a greater example of artistic polar opposites, yet anyone lucky enough to have witnessed this creative alliance would agree that the two compliment each other perfectly.
Executing performances with some of the worlds most renowned orchestras, such as the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic, Cologne’s WDR Funkhausorchester, Florida’s Imperial Symphony Orchestra, Nürnberg Symphoniker, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra to name a few, the pair have been turning concert halls on their heads and continuing to wow audiences with this remarkable collaboration.
Simply titled, ‘Thum Prints’ this boundary pushing symphony comprises mainly of original compositions, wholly written by Tom and Gordon. Bridged by comedic interludes, it has the ability to be programmed as a full 60 minute show, or as a 20 minute concerto in a longer symphonic program. В предлагаемом курсе лекций обсуждаются все составляющие этой картины: кварки, заряженные лептоны, нейтрино и переносчики взаимодействий. Отдельная лекция посвящена бозону Хиггса. Обсуждаются также и проблемы в наших представлениях о структуре материи. Среди этих проблем — отсутствие объяснения темной материи, которой во Вселенной в пять раз больше, чем обычной, и внутренняя противоречивость теории. Быть может, обе проблемы можно будет решить за счет введения так называемых суперсимметричных частиц.
